Srinagar, Jun 26 (KNO): In a remarkable display of compassion and humanitarian spirit, around 1,300 blood pints were donated at multiple blood donation camps across Srinagar’s Zadibal on Youm-e-Ashoora, with thousands of mourners also participating in the day’s religious processions. Several NGOs, voluntary organisations and health groups organised blood donation camps from morning till evening, witnessing an overwhelming response from donors. Among the major contributors, Salute 72, an NGO, collected 282 blood pints, while Rehmat-ul-Aalameen collected 137 blood pints. United Forum Health, headed by Irfan Bashir, collected over 140 blood pints at its camp. Similarly, blood donation camps set up by other organisations also witnessed encouraging participation, taking the overall collection to nearly 1,300 blood pints by the end of the day. Hilal Ahmad, a medical representative present at the camps, said the annual initiative has become an important support for healthcare services. “The response has been highly encouraging. The blood collected today will benefit patients across hospitals and blood banks. Such humanitarian initiatives not only save lives but also strengthen the spirit of unity and compassion in society,” Ahmad told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). Irfan Bashir, Chairman of United Forum Health, said the enthusiastic response reflected the community's commitment towards serving humanity. “Every year, people come forward to donate blood on Youm-e-Ashoora in memory of the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS). We are grateful to all donors and volunteers whose support made this initiative successful. Every unit of blood donated today will help save precious lives,” he said. Fahad, a representative of Salute 72, said the organisation was overwhelmed by the public response. “Our camp collected 282 blood pints, which reflects the dedication and humanitarian spirit of our youth. We thank every donor who came forward for this noble cause,” he said. Sajad a blood donor, said blood donation has become one of the most meaningful ways of observing Youm-e-Ashoora. “The message of Karbala teaches sacrifice and service to humanity. Through these blood donation drives, people are carrying forward those values by helping patients in need,” he said. Like previous years, both Sunni and Shia Muslims participated in the blood donation drives, highlighting communal harmony and their shared commitment to humanitarian causes. The organisers expressed gratitude to the volunteers, doctors, paramedics and donors for making the annual blood donation campaign a success, saying the initiative continues to grow every year and remains one of the largest humanitarian activities associated with Youm-e-Ashoora in Kashmir—(KNO)
